COMING SOON - AUGUST 2026 PROJECTED OPENING - MONTEREY, CA
Setting expectations is important. At Ocean's Edge, we want to make sure you know what to expect from a typical class. While there will be exceptions to the below, a structured approach helps set the expectation for each student. As students advance, weapons will be introduced (primarily the bow staff, sai, and boken, with familiarity work with nunchaku).
Class starts on time
Bow to begin
Teens and Adults will add beginning meditation
Warm Up - 10 minutes or less
While physical fitness is extremely important, you show up to primarily learn martial arts, not how to do push-ups
Intermediate Kids and above will begin to lead Warm-Ups on a rotating basis
Instructor supervision will always be present
This instills confidence in the student and provides practice for future instruction of other students
For kids, the warm-ups may include "silly" exercises to promote body movement and engagement; such as log rolls, duck walks, bear crawls, etc.
Quick water/bio break
